Pricing
Line editing is .06 per word. A line edit addresses the creative content, writing style, and language use at the sentence and paragraph level.
Developmental editing is .05 per word. A developmental editor guides an author with the topics in the book, planning the overall structure, and developing an outline, making sure tone is consistent, and finding any plot holes.
A book critique is .03 per word. A critique includes an analysis on tone, style, marketability, plot holes and inconsistencies. Unlike a developmental edit, this is not broken down by chapter–it is just one summary.
Scheduling
Scheduling is for books is typically done 1-4 months in advance depending on the time of year and whether there are cancellations.
If editing is needed immediately, i.e. anything less than the next 72 hours, please see the following rates:
Copyediting is .08 per word.
Developmental editing is .07 per word.
A book critique is .05 per word.
Turnaround Time
Every edit is unique, so turnaround times will vary for books. You will receive an estimated delivery date for your edit before receiving an invoice.
For blog posts, you will receive an edited blog post in 48 hours (or less than 48 hours–often 24 hours if you ordered an expedited job.
Payment
Payment can be made through PayPal or by mailing a money order or cashier’s check (Paypal required if outside of US).
Payment may be made in installments if needed, but 50% of the payment is due upfront before any services are performed.
Software
Microsoft Word, Google Docs and Scrivener file formats are acceptable.
(Editing can be done in WordPress for an additional .02 per word.)
Terms of Service
-Change in Word Count: Should the document have a word count that is higher than what you originally quoted, you will be charged for the increase in word count. Should the word count go down, please let me know so I can lower the price to reflect the change.
-Payment Policy: Payment is due prior to the start of services, but I am flexible with the number of payments and can split the total cost across several invoices if needed as long as all invoices are paid prior to the start date. If you do not pay the total by the date the edit is scheduled, the edit will be pulled from my schedule until payment is received.
-Scope of Project: After receiving the edits, you may ask questions about the edits to seek clarification or additional support for a period of up to 30 days after receipt. Requests for additional editing, brainstorming, outlining, and writing will require payment for additional services.
-Communication: All communication is done via email. I do not take phone calls for a variety of reasons. No exceptions.
-Editing is Subjective: By scheduling your edit, you are accepting that editing is subjective and that you may disagree with my edits. I would be happy to clarify any concerns or areas of disagreement so that you can understand my reasoning, but disagreeing with my edits does not entitle you to a refund of any kind.
