Resources

Every writer needs a few tools in their toolbox. So on that note, here are some products that I love. (Some of these are affiliate links.)

Books:

Ready Aim Fire You can think of this book as a personal coaching program in book form. It helps you set and achieve goals based on your priorities.

War of Art This book is fantastic and will teach you about the resistance/fear. I also recommend Steve Pressfield’s blog as well which is found here.

Do the Work This is the resistance applied to a project. Very, very practical and useful. An absolute favorite.

Poke the Box This book will inspire you to try new things. Stop procrastinating. Try things out on your own.

Steal Like an Artist Good ideas in a creative layout. Nothing new per se, but a fantastic summary of how art is inspired by many other forms of art.

When Words Collide a fantastic guide all about writing. Very helpful and a great resource to have.

On Writing this book from Stephen King is both entertaining and very practical. It is a great resource for all writers, especially for fiction writers.

Software:

Scrivener for Mac and Scrivener for Windows This is the best of the best in writing software. A MUST HAVE for writers. There is a learning curve, but it’s worth it. Scrivener allows you to write in pieces and sort it out. The Mac version is amazing.

Writing:

Composition Notebook I love these for jotting ideas in. Can’t go wrong with old school writing!

Legal Pad I find these easy on the eyes and perfect for longhand writing or just taking notes.

  • Good idea and thanks for sharing. I’ll give a huge +1 to both The War of Art and Quitter. Some books motivate you, but others directly impact the way you approach your projects. Both books did exactly that for me.
